Silvio Ferraz, studied composition at the Universidade de São Paulo (usp) with Gilber to Mendes and Willy Corrêa de Oliveira. he completed his studies at Royaumont Foundation, France, with Brian Ferneyhough and James Dillon and at the IRCAM's "Académie d'été", with Gerard Grisey and Jonathan Harvey. His works have been performed in Brazil and Europe by the NASH ensemble, the Smith Quartet, Grupo Novo Horizonte, Camerata Aberta, Iktus Ensemble, ensemble LAMI and Arditti string quartet.

Doctor in semiotic by Pontificial Catholic University of S. Paulo (PUCSP) with a thesis about a musical lecture on Deleuze's difference and repetition. Currently, is professor of composition Universidade de São Paulo (USP) after 14 years teaching at UNICAMP). at the

His researches focused on the notion of time in musical composition. computer compositional environments and instrumental extended techniques in new compositions, are supported by FAPESP (Fundação de Amparo a Ciência de S. Paulo) and CNPQ.

He his also director of the International Winter Festival of Campos do Jordão for the biennium 2009-2010, and the first artistic director of the Brazilian ensemble Camerata Aberta.
